The 2017 KTM Duke 390 has been rendered by us and it draws styling inspiration from the company’s flagship motorcycle, the 1290 Super Duke R.
KTM took the Indian motorcycle market by storm when it launched the Duke 200 in January 2012 and it’s already time for the next generation models to hit the road. The 2017 KTM Duke 200 and 390 will be launched in India by mid-2017 and has been spied multiple times recently. It takes design inspiration from the 1290 Super Duke R and looks menacing for its rivals. Our rendering shows how the second generation Duke 390 will carry forward the street-fighter appeal to the next level.
KTM will retain the engine on the Duke 390 although it will get changes for improved refinement and lower emissions. The performance of the upcoming Duke 390 might be inferior to the current model as the new bike will be 5 kgs heavier. But there are changes elsewhere which will make the new 390 an even better motorcycle to own.
One of the big changes is the new instrument cluster which looks like a smartphone and gets a full colour TFT display. The console will feature smartphone connectivity and will show GPS data, the tachometer will be similar to the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, it will change colours as the revs rise. To toggle the new console, the left hand side switchgear has arrow buttons.
The ride-by-wire system might result in performance modes while the ride quality is expected to improve with the new separate function forks up front. The fuel tank will be all metal and KTM should increase the tank capacity to improve riding range which is quite low on their current India made bikes.
