The 2017 Hyundai Verna is scheduled for a launch this 22nd August but the presentation module of the sedan has been leaked ahead of its launch. The product presentation module reveals how the 2017 Verna fares against its competition.
Entering its 5th generation, the 2017 Verna underpins Hyundai’s K2 platform (the same platform on which the Elantra is based). The 2017 Hyundai Verna measures 4440 mm in length, 1729 mm in width, and 1475 mm in height. The 2017 iteration also gets a 2600 mm wheelbase (an increase of 30 mm over the outgoing model). The 2017 Hyundai Verna gets 2 engine options – 1.6-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel. The 1.6-litre petrol engine makes 123 HP of power and 151 Nm of torque while the 1.6-litre diesel makes 126 HP of power and 260 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The new Verna boasts of many new and first-in-segment features. The new features include projector headlamps with cornering function and LED DRLs, LED tail-lights, curtain for the rear windshield, electric sunroof, cruise control and Hyundai Auto Link while the first-in-segment features are the smart trunk and front ventilated seats (which none of its rivals offer).
The 2017 Hyundai Verna scores over its competition in various aspects like the availability of a pull-strap on the rear armrest, wider boot-lid open button, luggage net inside the boot, bigger ORVMs, smart key with soft touch plastic, 7-inch Audio Video Navigation with IPS display, cluster ionizer (ensures clean and pollution free cabin), condenser with Eco Coating technology, cooled glove box and sliding front armrest. The sedan comes with a 3 years/unlimited kilometres warranty and it is claimed to have the segment’s lowest cost of maintenance.
The C-segment has always been a battleground of sorts. The Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Maruti Ciaz used to have a tough fight earlier, but once the older Verna started feeling outdated, the City and Ciaz outsold it by huge numbers each month. The Ciaz is leading the segment as of now, with the City close behind. Now, with the launch of the new Verna, it is going to be very interesting to see how the market reacts.
