The 2017 Hyundai Verna has been previewed in concept form in China and will go on sale in India next year. It will feature vast improvements in all areas including ride and handling.
The third generation Hyundai Verna has been previewed in the form of the Verna Concept at the on-going Beijing Motor Show in China. Also known as Accent or Solaris in certain markets, the current generation model was launched way back in 2011 and is quite dated in front of modern competition. In fact Hyundai has been giving it repeated updates in the past few years but still sales of the Verna have dropped. It was once the leader in the C-segment.
The 2017 Hyundai Verna Concept showcases the design of the third gen model which gets an evolutionary styling. Featuring Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, the new Verna gets a large hexagonal grille which is also seen on the Elite i20. The headlights look similar to the current Verna and the side profile is quite similar too.The rear gets some influence from the Elantra and the tail lights use LEDs.
While the changes aren’t drastic on the outside, one can expect a vast leap in the interior design with the dashboard being similar to the i20 and Creta. A long list of equipment is expected on this Honda City rival while cabin space will be given utmost importance to ensure rear seat comfort isn’t compromised.
Hyundai is likely to use the same set of 1.6-litre engines on the new Verna which could get tweaks for improved performance and efficiency. The next-gen Verna has high hopes riding on it and competition does fear what this Korean sedan could do, thus Honda postponed the launch of the City facelift to next year. The 2017 Hyundai Verna will go on sale in Korea later this year while an India launch will happen early next year.
