BMW has taken the covers off the first-ever motorcycle that comes with a carbon-fibre frame which weighs just 7.8 kgs!
Just thinking of writing about this insane sportsbike, gives me the feeling that I’m already riding on it, with goosebumps all over the body, of course! BMW revealed the HP4 Race superbike, which is the first ever production motorcycle that comes with a frame entirely built out of carbon fibre. The frame weighs just 7.8 kgs! It isn’t the frame only that’s made out of carbon fibre, even the alloys too. This has made the bike lighter indeed weighing at only 177 kgs with a full fuel tank.
Powering the HP4 Race is a 999cc inline-4 engine based on the S1000RR that makes a mind-numbing 215 HP of power and 119.3 Nm of torque! This World Superbike spec engine comes mated to a close-ratio racing 6-speed gearbox and a host of electronics to keep the wheels planted. It gets Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Engine Brake (EBR), Wheelie Control, Launch Control and Pit Lane Limiter for speed limits on pit lanes.
Stopping power is provided by Brembo GP4 PR monoblock brake calipers with 320 T-type racing steel brake discs at the front. Suspension duties are carried by Ohlins FGR 300 up-side down forks at the front and Ohlins TTX 36 GP spring at the back. Only a limited 750 units shall be made by BMW and the bike shall come priced at £68,000 (approximately Rs. 56.34 lakhs).
