BMW has started production of the 2017 5-Series at their plant in Chennai.
BMW has commenced the production of the 2017 5-Series at its Chennai facility and the German carmaker is all geared up to launch the latest iteration of the luxury sedan on June 29th. This is a new generation model and it gets major revisions to the exteriors and interiors, and comes loaded with a lot of new-age features.
The 5-Series was unveiled officially last year and is based on BMW’s CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform. The India-spec 5-Series initially is expected to get a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 190 HP (520d) and a 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 265 HP and 620 Nm of torque (530d). Both these diesels will come paired to an 8-speed Steptronic gearbox.
The Chennai facility has been operational since the last 10 years and now produces the BMW 1-Series, BMW 3-Series, BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo, BMW 5-Series, BMW 7-Series, BMW X1, BMW X3 and the BMW X5.
