Bajaj Auto is all set to launch a new brand called Kratos under which the VS 400 sports cruiser will be launched soon.
You read it first on MotorBeam. Showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, the Bajaj Pulsar CS 400 concept became immensely popular and Pulsar fanboys have been eagerly waiting for it to launch soon. A while back it was confirmed that the production bike will be called VS 400 (not CS 400) where VS stands for Vantage Sport, it won’t be using the Pulsar brand name either. Now we are able to confirm that Kratos is the name of the new Bajaj brand under which the VS 400 would be launched in November.
Kratos stands for the Greek God of war and it’s the personification of strength, might, sovereign rule and authority in all its forms. Bajaj has been democratising performance biking in India and it’s only apt that demos means people and Kratos infers power. Hence power to the people, something which Bajaj has been providing with its Pulsar range since more than a decade.
Bajaj Auto will use this new name to build a higher cc premium brand which will take on Royal Enfield. The company dropped the Pulsar name because a cruiser bike under the Pulsar name makes as much sense as a 150cc bike from Royal Enfield, Rajiv Bajaj recently stated.
In terms of styling, the Kratos VS 400 has Ducati Diavel inspired design and similar riding position as well. There are very few changes made from the concept bike to the production spec VS 400 but the upside down front forks have been dropped in lieu of the conventional telescopic units.
Powering the Kratos VS 400 will be a KTM Duke 390 borrowed 373cc single-cylinder engine with slightly different tuning for better cruising ability. It will be getting Bajaj’s popular triple-spark technology and will produce 34.5 BHP, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle will get optional dual-channel ABS and will compete with Royal Enfield’s Classic range.
