In keeping the demands of the Indian consumer in mind, Volvo has launched a soft-roader version of its popular sedan, the S60 and labeled it as the S60 Cross Country.
Design – The S60 has always been a very handsome looking sedan with just the perfect dimensions and it looks very youthful too. The S60 Cross Country that you see here comes with body cladding running across the wheel arches, thus adding an SUV-ish appeal to it. The ground clearance has been increased significantly to 201 mm. The styling looks very rugged and the vehicle also gets scuff plates. The 18-inch tyres also add a beefy look to the car.
Interiors – On the inside, the dashboard layout continues to remain similar to the one that we have already seen on the S60 sedan and it looks a bit outdated. You do get a lot of features like electric front seats, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera, etc. The S60 Cross Country also gets a space saver wheel but unfortunately it takes up a significant amount of boot space.
Engine – Under the hood, Volvo has plonked the 2.4-litre D4 diesel engine which is a detuned version of the D5 engine that we already know. It churns out 190 HP of power and 420 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Volvo is also offering an AWD system as standard on this soft-roader.
The Volvo S60 Cross Country has been launched at a price of Rs. 38.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). It is offered in only one fully-loaded trim. The regular S60 competes with the Mercedes C-Class, BMW 3-Series and Audi A4 while the Cross Country doesn’t really have any real competitors in its segment.
