2016 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Teased Ahead Of Launch

The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V has been teased in Indonesia where the launch is scheduled for the 20th of January, followed by the media ride at the Sentul Racing Circuit on the 21st.

TVS Apache fans have been waiting for long and finally the wait is going to come to an end as the South India based manufacturer is all set to launch its flagship bike. Thanks to a teaser released by the company’s Indonesian subsidiary, we now know that the model will be called the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V with 4V standing for 4-valves. The 200cc motor will be a single-cylinder unit that is expected to produce 26 PS of power with the rev limit coming in at an early 9000 RPM.

The powerplant of the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V uses a carburettor for reduced costs and the gearbox is a 5-speed unit, the latter being disappointing as the Bajaj Pulsar AS 200, the new Apache’s closest rival, makes do with a 6-speed transmission. The motor is an SOHC unit with low and mid-range performance likely to be the highlight. In Indonesia, TVS has started a social media contest where the winners will get a chance to ride the bike at the Sentul International Circuit on the 21st of this month, the same day a media ride is being held at the company’s Hosur test track for Indian media.

TVS is rumoured to have used the Apache 180’s engine, increasing displacement to 200cc along with deploying an oil-cooler. The tyres are 90/90/17 and 130/70/17 at the front and rear respectively. Braking duties are taken care by 270 mm and 250 mm discs at the front and rear respectively with dual-channel ABS being offered as an option. The expected weight of the bike is 140 kgs and TVS tyres will do duty on the Indian version while Pirelli rubber will adorn export models.

Underpinned by a single-downtube tubular steel frame, the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V has been developed with inputs from BMW Motorrad, it also gets an all-digital instrument cluster which seems to have taken some influence from the upcoming BMW G310R. The cooling system is said to have been taken from BMW but hardware on the bike isn’t top spec, so competing with the KTM Duke 200 seems like a distant possibility. The Apache 200 gets a box section steel swingarm, clip-on handlebars, split seats, rear monoshock and should be priced at around Rs. 1 lakh (ex-showroom).
