2016 Toyota Innova Shares Only 5% Components With Existing Model

2016 Toyota Innova Specifications

Toyota revealed that a new Innova rolls out of the Indonesian facility in every 90 seconds while the model shares only 5% of components from the current generation model.

The 5% common components are only the nuts & screws used

The new generation Toyota Innova was launched in Indonesia earlier this week finally pulling all the wraps from the highly anticipated model that will be coming to India next year. While the cosmetic and mechanical details are out in the open, some new details related to the MPV have now emerged online. To begin with, Toyota confirmed that the 2016 Innova shares only five percent of its components with the outgoing model.

In case you were wondering what that five percent is, it is just the nuts and screws that have been carried over to the new generation model. The 2016 Toyota Innova is based on a comprehensively revised ladder-on-frame chassis which is much stronger and offers improved structural rigidity over the outgoing version. In terms of aesthetics, the MPV is a major departure compared to the outgoing version featuring projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED finished tail lamps and more chiselled lines. The MPV is also longer while retaining a similar wheelbase.

The cabin has been completely overhauled with more premium fit and finish and comes loaded with a host of new features. The 2016 Toyota Innova continues to get the 7 or 8-seater layout and is loaded with a touchscreen infotainment system, MID unit, cabin trays, ambient lighting and a whole lot more. Power comes from a newly developed 2.4-litre diesel producing 149 PS and 360 Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre VVT-i petrol mill producing 139 PS and 183 Nm of torque. Also new are the 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. As a result, there is no need for the older components.

Indonesia is the first and only country to manufacture the new generation Toyota Innova at present while production in India will commence next year. Developed with an investment of around Rs. 2422 crores, Toyota stated that a new Innova rolls out from its Indonesian facility every 90 seconds and the company aims to sell 1000-1500 units every month in the South East Asian market. The Innova is Toyota’s bread and butter model in India and the new generation model is expected to keep up in volumes.

The new Innova currently commands a waiting period of 3 months in Indonesia
