The second generation Toyota Innova will be launched in India in early 2016 and is expected to be loaded on features while attracting a hefty pricing as well.
The Innova is Toyota India’s bread and butter model while also being the most obvious choice for cab operators and private buyers alike that need an extremely comfortable multi-seater. Surely, the MPV has built quite a reputation for itself in the past decade being the segment best seller and taking it forward will be the next generation model due for launch in 2016. While the test mules have already been spotted numerous times across the country, Toyota has now imported the next generation version with the new 2.4-litre diesel engine for R&D purposes.
The 2016 Toyota Innova will be using a 2.4-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that replaces the current 2.5-litre unit. The new motor belongs to the GD family of engines and is said to be more frugal and refined while also emitting lower CO2 fumes. Power output can be expected in the same vicinity as the outgoing version, albeit with better drivability and lower NVH levels from the powerplant. In addition, the new mill will come paired to a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options that will keep driver comfort in check. Based on the IMV platform, the all new model will also come loaded on safety tech, with dual front airbags probably standard across the range.
In terms of dimensions, the next generation Toyota Innova has grown larger improving cabin space on the model. The design language at the front is a lot more futuristic now and the cabin will be loaded on features including a touchscreen infotainment unit that was seen in previous spy shots. There have also been reports of the new Innova moving up the ladder in terms of pricing with the top most variant to come with an on-road price tag of Rs. 22 lakhs. That said, complete details on the all new model will be available later this year once the Innova breaks cover in the South East Asian market while the Indian launch is expected during the 2016 Auto Expo.
