The SUV segment is going to witness two brand new products fighting it out with each other and both of them seem to be equally capable.
Exteriors – Both the current generation Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour have butch designs that command a lot of road presence. The new models have evolved very drastically in styling. The Fortuner gets a lot of new curves and lines and the new model is way different than the outgoing one. It also has certain quirky elements which not everyone may like. The Endeavour on the other hand still has a very masculine body profile without any unnecessary elements and frankly it looks way better than the Toyota. Expect both the vehicles to be offered in a lot of new colours, including some really bright ones.
Interiors – Again, the current Fortuner and Endeavour have very basic interiors which are devoid of gizmos but the new generation SUVs are completely different. Both of them have a straightforward layout for the insides and they are loaded with a lot of tech wizardry. The Toyota gets features like 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, leather seat upholstery, 220V accessory socket, automatic AC and an infotainment system with navigation while the Endeavour also gets Ford’s SYNC 2 system with voice commands, 8-inch screen, 10 speakers, automatic climate control, etc. Both the SUVs are big on space and practicality too.
Engines – The 2016 Ford Endeavour comes with two engine options – a 2.2-litre TDCi unit that gives out 160 PS of power and 385 Nm of torque and a 3.2-litre unit churning out 200 PS of power and 470 Nm of torque. In comparison, the Fortuner gets a 2.8-litre diesel engine that pumps out 174 HP of power and 450 Nm of torque. An automatic transmission will be offered on both the vehicles. The Endeavour also gets a Terrain Management System that comes with four modes and again both the SUVs will excel when it comes to off-road performance.
Verdict – On paper, the Fortuner as well as the Endeavour seem very promising and we predict the market to accept both the cars. The current Fortuner is priced at quite a premium as compared to the Ford and as everyone can guess, the new model will be even more pricier. The ball is in Ford’s court now and if they manage to undercut the Fortuner by a significant amount, then they have a winner on their hands with the new Endeavour.
