Toyota will finally launch the new generation Fortuner in India this year after its global launch in July last year. The new Fortuner is based on the latest TNGA platform of the Hilux pickup truck.
The Toyota Fortuner is an imposing vehicle which single-handedly devastated the business of D2 segment cars. The SUV crazy nation lapped up the previous generation Fortuner like hot cakes and Toyota celebrated Diwali with every unit sold, that too at exorbitant prices. Now when finally the sales of the old generation car has started to decline, the overlords at Toyota decided to send in their latest weapon in form of the 2016 Fortuner, which will be launched in the country in a couple of months.
The new generation Toyota Fortuner will launch in India in the month of November – bang in the middle of festive season. The new, TNGA based car was launched way back in July 2015, but Toyota deliberately kept the car away from us as the ol’ T-Fort was already selling in considerable numbers. Now the company, fresh after the success of the new Innova Crysta, is ready to bring the car in India as the old car was getting too long in the tooth and losing every month to its main competitor – the Ford Endeavour.
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner is based on the all-new TNGA platform and shares most of its mechanicals with the Innova Crysta as well as the Hilux pick-up. The new platform, Toyota says, makes its cars lighter yet stiffer, thereby improving high-speed handling, stability as well as crash safety. The car is also chock-full of all the bells and whistles, which was a major complaint in the previous car. The Fortuner will share its powerplant with the Innova as a 148 PS power making 2.4-litre and a 177 PS producing 2.8-litre diesel engine.
The new Fortuner is 90 mm longer and 15 mm wider than the outgoing model, while the wheelbase of 2750 mm remains identical. The exterior features an all new styling comprising of sharp lines and contemporary elements that make the Fortuner look bolder than ever. The Fortuner will be equipped with features such as LED projector headlights with DRLs, Traction Control, electric tailgate, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control and a 7-inch T-Connect infotainment system with satellite navigation.
