2016 Toyota Fortuner Front Spied, Is Lexus Inspired

The front end of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner draws heavy inspiration from sister luxury brand Lexus and looks quite appealing.

Lexus inspired front grille heavily enhances the looks of the Fortuner

The Toyota Fortuner has always been a top performer in the premium SUV segment ever since it was launched in 2009 in India. The Fortuner never came second to anyone in terms of sales thanks to its bullish dimensions, masculine looks and the Toyota nameplate. It received a mild facelift in 2011 but carried the same characteristics as the initial model. The vehicle is now sold in both four-wheel drive as well as automatic avatar; a combination of both was launched later.

Owing to an excerpt from Headlight Magazine, the front of the next generation Toyota Fortuner has been spied. The next generation Fortuner which will debut as a 2016 model, is based on an all new ladder-frame platform. This will help make the new model lighter and stiffer, thus making it more capable than the current generation Fortuner. The vehicle is based on the Toyota Hilux pickup which is also due to be replaced soon. Headlamps of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner get a more slimmer and sleeker look. The sharper design language is further enhanced by the heavy chrome cladding on the front grille.

The design philosophy of the front end seems to be carried over from Lexus’ books and gives the already macho SUV a more premium and upmarket look. There is no confirmation on the engines that will be offered on the vehicle but according to a few reports, it will most likely feature new diesel engines along with petrol units, paired to manual and automatic gearboxes with two and four wheel drive configurations.

The 2016 Toyota Fortuner has already started testing in counties like Brazil and Thailand. The SUV’s global debut will take place towards the end of this year and is expected to launch in India in 2016. The 2016 Fortuner may even premier at the 2016 Auto Expo if things go as per plan for Toyota. Nevertheless, the Fortuner has a big fan following in India and the upcoming model will only help in increasing the same as the new design looks quite elegant. When launched in India, the vehicle will definitely cause many sleepless nights for its rivals like the Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Hyundai Santa Fe and soon to launch Chevrolet Trailblazer.
