The new 2.2-litre diesel engine is Euro 6 compliant and gets a new 7-speed automatic gearbox for improved performance and refinement.
Mahindra owned SsangYong has announced a host of upgrades for the Rexton SUV in the UK which most importantly includes a new engine under the hood. To begin with, the 2016 SsangYong Rexton uses a 2.2-litre e-XDi220 diesel motor that replaces the outgoing 2.0-litre unit and is capable of producing 178 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque available from 1400 RPM to 2800 RPM. The new engine is Euro 6 compliant and drops the CO2 emissions from 196 g/km to 184 g/km.
Transmission options include a 6-speed manual while a new 7-speed automatic is now available sourced from Mercedes-Benz and comes with a low range mode for off-roading that splits the torque equally between the front and rear axles for optimum traction levels. Other updates remain the same as the SUV gets no cosmetic changes on the outside or inside but is already loaded on equipment. Available in 5 or 7-seater configurations, the Rexton gets 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, LED DRLs, front and rear parking sensors.
Inside, the cabin is spruced up with dual-tone beige and grey leather upholstery, leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel, satellite navigation, auto dimming IRVM, heated seats, multiple connectivity options and much more. Mechanically, the SsangYong Rexton is based on a ladder-on-frame chassis and has a towing capacity of 3-tonnes. Keeping the ride comfortable is a multi-link rear suspension whereas the front gets a double wishbone setup.
Adding convenience, SsangYong offers a 5-year limitless mileage warranty on all its vehicles in the UK that extends to the Rexton as well while prices start at £22,995 (Rs. 23.18 lakhs) for the base trim, going up to £28,995 (Rs. 29.23 lakhs) for the range-topping ELX automatic variant. Considering the Rexton is sold in limited numbers in India, we don’t expect the new diesel motor to arrive here anytime soon.
