Skoda is gearing up to launch the 2016 Superb in India and the automaker has revealed a teaser on its website.
The Skoda Superb has been a very successful D-segment sedan in India but buyers have started preferring entry-level German sedans which are offered at a similar price point as the Superb. The Czech automaker has been developing and testing the new Superb since a long time now and the executive sedan has finally been revealed officially on Skoda India’s website.
This is the third generation of the Superb and it is based on the MQB platform which is also shared by many other VAG cars. The vehicle also gets a lot of styling changes and it looks much younger and sportier now. The length of the car is shorter by 61 mm as compared to the outgoing model but its width has been increased by 47 mm while the wheelbase has increased by 80 mm.
A lot of styling elements have been inspired by the VisionC concept too. The new headlights and tail lamps look extremely striking. The interiors are again loaded with a lot of features like automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, rain and light sensors, MirrorLink app and a 610-Watt 12-speaker audio system.
The 2016 Skoda Superb is available with a lot of engine options. The petrol trims can be had with 1.4-litre, 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre TSI units while the diesel variants can be had with 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre TDI engines. However, the Indian market will get only two engines – 1.8-litre TSI and 2.0-litre TDI. The 7-speed DSG transmission will also be offered.
The 2016 Skoda Superb is expected to be priced between Rs. 25-30 lakhs (ex-showroom) and it will compete against the Toyota Camry. However, it will also be rivalling out with some of the entry-level Germans like the Audi A3, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes CLA on a purely price-based comparison.
