The 2016 Skoda Superb is offered with an option of two engines that include 1.8-litre TSI petrol and 2.0-litre TDI diesel. The third generation Superb is brought into India via the CKD route.
After a lot of spying and teasing, Skoda has finally launched the third-generation Superb in India at a starting price of Rs. 22.68 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The new-gen of the limousine is based on the VisionC concept showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in 2014 and it will take on the likes of the Toyota Camry and the upcoming Honda Accord in the Indian market.
The 2016 Skoda Superb is built on the parent company Volkswagen’s MQB platform that also underpins the Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia. It features a redesigned front fascia with projector headlamps and LED DRLs along with a new grille and the hood sports character lines similar to the Octavia while the rear has two-piece LED tail lamps.
The power comes from an option of 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine producing 180 PS and 250 Nm of torque while mated to 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox while the 6-speed manual belts out more torque at 320 Nm. The 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine produces 177 PS and 350 Nm of torque which is mated to a 6-speed DSG gearbox. The diesel model has 27% more efficiency than before while the petrol sees an improvement of 12%.
The 2016 Skoda Superb is 4861 mm long, 1864 mm wide and 1468 mm tall and it is 75 kgs lighter than its predecessor. The wheelbase has increased by 80 mm while it offers 39 mm more elbow room and 157 mm more legroom than the previous model and the boot can store up to 625-litres. The ground clearance is 164 mm while two variants are on offer – Style and L&K.
On the inside, the 2016 Skoda Superb comes with a lot of ‘Simply Clever’ features that include piano black interiors, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats with 12-way adjustable driver seat with memory, 3-zone climate control, 8 airbags and 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, rear parking sensors, etc. The Skoda Superb is offered in 4 colours – white, grey, black and brown.
