The 2016 Jaguar XF has been revealed finally and even though it might look similar to the XE, it still offers a great package overall.
The 2016 Jaguar XF will be showcased at the New York Motor Show next week and it was unveiled in London just a few hours back. The second generation of this wild cat sedan might have similar looks to its predecessor but actually it is a whole new car inside. The first generation XF comes with Ford underpinnings while the new model comes on an extended platform of the XE. The iQ aluminium architecture weighs the lowest in class and it is approximately 80 kgs lighter than competition. The new platform is also stiffer than the current one. So even though the vehicle has new underpinnings, its exteriors still look like an improved version of the current model’s exteriors.
The front face of the 2016 Jaguar XF is sharp but it is hard to notice the changes that have been made. The grille has been tweaked slightly and the headlamps now feature full LEDs. The front bumper has also been given a slight change in design. Moving to the sides, the first thing that we notice is the addition of a new quarter window that sits right next to the rear passenger windows. The rear has been given a distinctive makeover too and the new tail lights seem to be inspired by the F-Type. The interiors have a straight forward design and it still looks classy enough.
The steering wheel is again similar to the F-Type and the instrument cluster comes with a large 12.3-inch screen. The infotainment system comes with a 10.2-inch screen touch screen. The new XF is 7 mm shorter than the outgoing version but it still has a 51 mm longer wheelbase. The weight distribution at the front and rear is almost 50:50 and the sedan gets a double wishbone and Integral Link Suspension with EPAS of course and a Configurable Dynamics System with the help of which the driver can change steering, engine, suspension and transmission settings.
Powering the 2016 Jaguar XF are two oil-burners and one petrol engine. The 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor comes in two states of tune, i.e. 167 PS/380 Nm and 180 PS/430 Nm of power and torque respectively. The other diesel engine is a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo giving out a massive 300 PS of power and 700 Nm of torque. There is also a 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine on offer that belts out 380 PS of power and 450 Nm of torque. The Jaguar XF competes with the Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-Series and Audi A6. The second generation XF will be launched in India later this year.
