The new generation Hyundai Tucson has taken the stage at the 2016 Auto Expo and is expected to launch soon in India making a comeback with the same nameplate but all-new avatar.
Hyundai is riding high in India on the success of its premium products including the Hyundai Elite i20 and more recently the compact SUV Creta. The latter has been positioned at the premium end of the compact SUV segment and yet is gathering tremendous demand in the country with a substantial waiting period for deliveries. Considering the buying capacity of Indians for such cars from Hyundai, the Korean automaker without wasting anytime is planning to introduce the new generation Tucson SUV.
The Hyundai Tucson was first launched in India in its first generation back around 2004-2005. However, the automaker was largely known for small cars like Santro and Accent so the Tucson didn’t get much traction. After skipping the second generation in India, the Korean manufacturer is back with its third generation Tucson that is all set to launch very soon. The Tucson will be positioned above the Creta and under Santa Fe in the carmaker’s Indian portfolio.
The Tucson comes with smart styling cues inspired from the Santa Fe and gets feature loaded interiors having latest tech including 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Smart Parking Assist, electric tailgate, blind spot assist, autonomous braking, lane keeping system, etc. Though some features might get skipped for India. Powering the Hyundai Tucson are two diesel engine options including 1.7-litre producing 114 BHP and 2.0-litre producing 182 BHP of power while transmission options include a 6-speed automatic and manual gearbox.
