The 2016 Hero Hunk facelift gets subtle changes in terms of design and new tell tale lights on the instrument cluster, but could updated with more power from the 149cc single-cylinder engine.
Honda two-wheelers had quite a dominant 2015 with two major events that saw a slew of offerings revealed for India. The automaker has a target of launching 15 products this year in a bid to keep its sales dominant and will introduce the CB Hornet 160R and a mystery 125cc bike to complete the number. In comparison, erstwhile partner Hero MotoCorp kept a low profile for majority of the year silently updating its existing models. However, Hero’s silence has only been due to the company taking its time to ready over 15 new and updated products for the Indian market that will be launched in the coming months.
As part of that long list of updated products will be the Hero Hunk facelift for model year 2016 that was recently caught completely undisguised. Showcasing a host of subtle changes, the 2016 Hunk continues with the existing design language with the additional fairing on the fuel tank. The front mudguard is slightly tweaked but could easily go unnoticed, while the handlebars now sports the Hero logo. At the rear, the shock absorbers get finished in black from the earlier red, while the golden coloured front fork covers too are finished in black. The instrument cluster gets new tell tale lights featuring a side stand indicator while retaining the large digital display.
Coming to the powertrain, it is believed that the 2016 Hero Hunk facelift will churn out 15 BHP of power (same as Xtreme Sports) from its 149cc engine and 13 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The current model makes 14.4 PS and 12.8 Nm of torque, and the new found power will certainly help the rather heavy bike (kerb weight – 145 kgs) to perform better. The 2016 Hunk spotted here was loaded with testing equipment here but appears production ready. Hero has also been readying up the new Splendor Pro (spotted earlier) among other motorcycles and will launch the models at regular intervals in the coming months. The company’s next major launch though is expected to be the Maestro Edge and Duet scooters with dealer dispatch commenced.
