During the last few years, motorcycle manufacturers have started launching high powered sports bikes in the Indian market. Giants like Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and KTM are selling their well acclaimed performance bikes in India. Just recently, Triumph motorcycles have made an entry into the Indian market. Triumph has launched all the bikes in their portfolio which are across five segments. The company has entered into the Indian market as there is huge traction in the performance segment. The British brand is currently working on developing motorcycles which are India specific.
In addition, Triumph has also started construction of its production plant which is located in the outskirts of Bangalore and will become operational in 2015. Recently the Triumph Daytona 250 motorcycle has been caught in uncamouflaged state in the UK. The new bike will be an India specific model and will also be sold in other emerging markets. The Triumph Daytona 250 will be built in the new plant and will also be exported across the globe. This will help Triumph benefit from the lower cost of production in India.
The Triumph Daytona 250 is likely to be powered by a 250cc single-cylinder engine which will have a power output in the range of 25-30 BHP. The new motorcycle will feature similarities in terms of design to the Daytona 675. The Daytona 250 will use a basic steel tube frame with a box section swing arm. Hardware on this liquid-cooled bike is quite basic and we expect Triumph to price the Daytona 250 very aggressively against the KTM RC 200 and Honda CBR300R. Expect prices to start at around Rs. 2.5 lakhs.
