The 2015 Toyota Grand New Avanza and Grand New Veloz get cosmetic upgrades and new equipment inside the cabin while sharing the same powertrain underneath.
Making its public debut at the 2015 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), Toyota has launched the Grand New Veloz and Grand New Avanza in the South East Asian country, with prices starting at Indonesian Rupiah 180.6 million (around Rs. 8.50 lakhs). Both the Grand New Veloz and Avanza are multi-seater vehicles sold in the South East Asian market, while the Avanza could make it to India in the future, positioned below the Innova rivalling the Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and the likes in the segment.
Starting with the changes for the 2015 model year, the Toyota Grand New Avanza gets a bold new front fascia with a massive chrome bar in the centre flanked by sweptback headlights. The bumper looks sportier, while changes at the rear include new tail lights, extended reflectors and a chrome applique on the tailgate. The alloy wheels are new as well. In terms of dimensions, the Avanza remains largely the same as the outgoing model measuring 4190 mm in length, 1660 mm in width and 1695 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2655 mm. Boasting of similar changes, the Grand New Veloz gets updated with a better-looking grille, projector lights and steering mounted controls.
Changes aren’t as extensive inside the cabin of the 2015 Toyota Grand New Avanza and Veloz, save for a few equipment upgrades. The models now get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation, while there is a third headrest in the second row for additional passenger comfort. The last row gets 50:50 foldable seats for increasing cargo space. The MPVs also come loaded with safety tech including dual airbags, ABS, EBD and smart key immobiliser.
Sharing the same engine options underneath, the 2015 Toyota Grand New Avanza and Veloz use a 1.3-litre VVT-i petrol engine now churning out 99 HP and 123 Nm of torque, while there is also a 1.5-litre petrol unit producing 107 HP and 140 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission with the latter being exclusive to the Grand New Veloz.
