2015 Tata Safari Storme Facelift Gets VARICOR 400 Badging

The Tata Safari Storme facelift gets updated with the 2.2-litre VARICOR diesel engine which powers the Aria but likely in an even higher state of tune. The increase in output will improve performance slightly.

The Safari Storme facelift gets the VARICOR badge on its side only

Tata Motors has been working on the 2015 Safari Storme facelift for a very long time now. Though not many changes are expected on the exteriors of the SUV, its interiors will definitely see a host of changes. A Team-BHP reader has caught the 2015 Safari Storme facelift while on test. It now gets a VARICOR 400 badge on its side, suggesting the engine will produce even more power than the updated Aria which was launched not so long back. But more than increasing engine output, the Safari Storme needs to shed some weight.

The Tata Safari Storme is known for its bullish looks and big dimensions. The vehicle is admired by everyone, whether its someone who knows about the car characteristics or someone who does not. The Tata Safari has not managed to get going in terms of sales in the Indian market, but the vehicle’s long list of fan following is now looking forward to its latest avatar. In these pictures, the exteriors seem to be the same as before. The place where we were expecting lots of changes is on the interior front, but unfortunately we still need to wait a while longer to see them in this case.

We expect the facelifted Safari to see a new infotainment system, picked directly from the Aria. Under the hood, the Safari Storme facelift will get the updated 2.2-litre VARICOR diesel engine (as seen on the Hexa Concept), which produces 154 BHP of power (a rise of 14 BHP from the current model) and 400 Nm of torque (up from 320 Nm), paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The company is also working on bringing an automatic transmission to its popular SUV although the same might not happen this year. Tata Motors hasn’t been quick with updating the Safari which has helped Mahindra take a big fat lead with its Scorpio.

The overall design of the car remains largely the same
