We told you so! Contrary to popular reports of a 2015 launch, Mercedes-Benz India will be launching the next generation C-Class sedan in the country in November this year. The automaker has already imported a couple of models from Germany on Indian shores, while the homologation process was completed in May earlier this year when we told you about the end-2014 launch. A major departure from the outgoing C-Class, the new generation model is expected to take that successful baton forward as the German automaker’s bestselling car in the country.

The 2015 Mercedes C-Class has grown 95 mm longer and 40 mm wider, while the wheelbase has increased by 80 mm from the current model. Based on the Mercedes Rearwheel Architecture (MRA) platform, the new C-Class is a good 100 kgs lighter than the outgoing model courtesy of the extensive use of aluminium. In terms of design, the C-Class takes inspiration from the flagship S-Class with a sophisticated grille and a bolder 3-pointed star in the centre, while the headlights are reminiscent of the new E-Class. Mercedes has managed to give a sporty touch with the new AMG inspired bumpers. Coming to the sides, the long body-line offers a premium and classy look, while the rear is extremely sophisticated with the petal shaped LED tail light units.

The overall design is also a lot more aerodynamic on the 2015 C-Class. On the inside, the cabin gets a completely new dashboard with a multi-function 3-spoke steering wheel, 8.4-inch heads-up display unit, propeller themed air-con vents and an updated COMAND system. There is also a new touchpad interface that allows easier control of the infotainment system. The longer wheelbase has improved rear seat legroom that will surely be appealing to the chauffeur driven owners. The cabin gets done up in dual-tone leather trims and will come with a plethora of new safety features and driver assistance systems including Adaptive Braking system with hill hold function, Attention Assist, Collision Prevention Assist plus and much more.

In terms of powertrain, the 2015 Mercedes C-Class will come with the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 184 HP of power and 300 Nm of torque as well as the 2.1-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine churning out 170 HP of power and 400 Nm of torque. Both the engines will come paired to a 7G-Tronic automatic transmission as standard. Rivaling the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and the Volvo S60 in the segment, the new Mercedes C-Class will be a major threat to the competition. More details will be available as the launch date comes closer.
