It is that time of the year when all manufacturers are busy unveiling and showcasing their updated products. Mercedes-Benz is not one to be left behind and we already know how the German automaker is having a strong product strategy. The company has now unveiled the 2015 facelift of the CLS. The CLS is currently in its second generation and this update gives the sporty coupe a nice feel over the outgoing one and it also comes loaded with some new technology that will surely get the vehicle the buzz it needs.
The 2015 Mercedes CLS features slightly redesigned styling. The front of the coupe carries a new grille which seems to be inspired from the CLA while the bumper looks similar to the one used on the E63 AMG. The side profile remains largely the same and the rear gets a new bumper and refreshed tail lights which look much better than the current model. The styling of the tail lamps is inspired by the new S-Class sedan. The diffuser at the rear lends the coupe a sporty feel and it is incorporated with a reflector strip mounted in the centre. The rear also gets a chrome lip.
Talking about new technology, Mercedes has installed Active Multibeam II LED lights on the 2015 CLS and these are very similar to Audi’s Matrix LEDs when it comes to functionality. The LED system consists of 24 individually-controlled LEDs which adjust the brightness and lighting pattern depending on oncoming vehicles. The Active Multibeam II LEDs won’t be offered in the US market. Moving to the interiors, the new CLS comes with a pop-up screen. The 2015 CLS also gets the latest COMAND system from Mercedes, although we feel BMW’s iDrive is more intuitive.
The updated Mercedes CLS will be launched in 2015 and other versions in the CLS range, i.e. CLS63 AMG and Shooting Star will also get these updates. The CLS is available in India and is priced in the whereabouts of Rs. 1 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the CLS350 CDI diesel variant. The new CLS will also be launched in India and it will compete with the Audi A7 and Porsche Panamera.
