The new Maruti Alto K10 gets a compeletely redesigned body shell on the lines of the new Alto 800 and the Celerio, while an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) has also been added to the K10.
Looking forward to resurgence in the entry-level A-segment hatchback space, Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the new Alto K10 hatchback next month that has been comprehensively updated with a completely new design, refurbished interiors and an automated manual transmission (AMT) on offer. The company states that the Alto K10 AMT aims to offer the convenience of an automatic with high fuel efficiency levels that has been a proven strategy with the very successful Celerio. Maruti will be offering 6 variants of the new Alto K10, with the AMT version available on the top-end variant.
The 2015 Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 gets updated with a tall boy design and an aggressive front fascia, while the rear is reminiscent of the Celerio. The interiors on the other hand have been given a premium treatment featuring a dual tone dashboard, gloss black finished centre console, new upholstery and brushed silver accents throughout the cabin. The major addition however is the new 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). Termed as ‘Auto Gear Shift’ in Maruti speak, the Alto K10 will now be the world’s most affordable automatic on offer.
Powering the 2014 Maruti Alto K10 is the same 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine producing 67 BHP of power at 6000 RPM and 90 Nm of torque at 3500 RPM, also available with the exisitng 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine has been tuned for more efficiency without any loss of power and now returns 24.07 km/l on the petrol and 32.26 km/kg on the CNG variants. In terms of affordability, the Alto K10 AMT version is expected to be around Rs. 50,000/- cheaper than the Celerio AMT; priced around Rs. 3.9 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Maruti witnessed dwindling sales in the entry-level hatchback space during the April-September period during the current fiscal with a decline of 1.3 percent, compared to the same period last year. The new Alto K10 will be providing a major boost to the sales with a larger chunk expected off the AMT varaint. Competing against the Hyundai Eon, Datsun GO and Chevrolet Spark, the 2015 Alto K10 AMT surely gets the upper hand in the segment.
