2015 Mahindra Thar Facelift Revealed Prior To Launch

The Mahindra Thar facelift has been spied once again and this time it reveals the changes just prior to launch. The vehicle has improved a lot but retains the mechanicals from before.

The front end immediately looks much better than before

The off-roading SUV from the Mahindra stable, Thar has been doing its duty well in India ever since it went on sale back in October 2010. The Thar is preferred by those who hit the beaten track often and is therefore a favorite in the rural parts of our country. However, the vehicle looks old now and is in desperate need of a refresh. The facelift is set to be launched in India tomorrow and it will look much more premium and upmarket than before.

The Mahindra Thar facelift has been spied a couple of times now and much is known about the changes it will carry. This time around, the SUV has been caught in production ready avatar without any camouflage. The front bumper has been overhauled, with a more bulky and beefier design than before. The wheel arches are also new, integrating well with the front bumper and giving a clean look. The wheels are also bigger and wider as compared to the current model. Another visible change includes a newly designed side step which looks way better than the current one.

The major changes can be seen inside the cabin of the Mahindra Thar facelift. Interiors have been revamped and look nothing like the outgoing model, featuring a new dual-tone design, revised upholstery and improved quality plastic. The centre console gets a big ‘Thar’ branding, below which new brushed silver AC vents are housed. It also has a new steering wheel, new stalks, silver finished gear knob (looks much better now) and most importantly a 3-pod instrument cluster with chrome rings that certainly lends a very good feel.

Mechanically, the facelift will get the same 2.5-litre CRDe engine with a power figure of 105 BHP and 247 Nm of torque. The other engine is a 2.5-litre DI mill that develops 63 BHP and 182.5 Nm of torque. The 5-speed manual gearbox will also remain unchanged. The 2015 Mahindra Thar will come in 2WD and BorgWarner’s all-wheel drive avatars.
