Mahindra has been testing the new Bolero very extensively across the country and it will come in two versions – sub 4-metre and a full-sized one.
Mahindra will be launching the next generation Bolero in 2015 and the MUV has been undergoing thorough testing across the country. Mahindra is also testing the Bolero in Germany to check how it performs under various weather conditions. The Bolero will be getting intensive styling changes apart from new petrol and diesel engines. Mahindra will also reduce its length to just under 4-metres to comply with lower excise duty norms. Now, the Bolero has been spotted yet again and this time our reader Achyuth Srinivasan spotted the test mule at Koyambedu, Chennai.
Every body panel of the new Mahindra Bolero will be revised and from the spy pictures it can be seen that its grille is inspired by the XUV500. The exterior styling will be modern while the interiors too will get premium touches. The Bolero will be powered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine (from the Quanto) mated to a 5-speed manual transmission while a smaller 1.2-litre oil burner will also be offered. The new Bolero will be launched in 2015.
The Bolero competes directly with the Tata Sumo and both of these utilitarian MUVs have been in the market for decades. While the Bolero still sells in good numbers, it has also managed to stay much ahead of the Sumo. So, considering that Tata Motors is upping its game to come up in the market, will the Sumo too be updated? As of now, the Sumo Gold comes with an outdated 3.0-litre diesel engine and is priced between Rs. 5.87 – 7.56 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). So, will Tata respond with a new Sumo to fight it out with the Mahindra Bolero? Or will they take their own sweet time like they are doing right now with the Safari by not responding to the new Scorpio.
