Just weeks after the US launch, Polaris owned Indian Motorcycles has launched the 2015 Indian Scout in the country, priced at Rs. 11.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) with bookings open starting from today. A cult motorcycle from the iconic American manufacturer, the Scout makes a comeback to the motorcycle world with the classic styling, while being powered by a modern heart. A successful motorcycle during the classic era, the Scout faced death after the company closed down shop and is back after 70 long years as the most affordable model to come from Indian Motorcycles’ range.
The Indian Scout measures 1563 mm in length with a ground clearance of 134 mm and has a low seat height of 643 mm to appeal to riders of all sizes. Taking inspiration from the Scouts of the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s, the 2015 Scout retains the classic lines of the motorcycle and compliments them further in a modern body shell. Polaris states that the design is completely new but includes the classic ‘rigid triangle’ design from the original Scout motorcycles. The Scout also provides exceptional low speed manoeuvrability with a maximum lean angle of 31-degrees and a low centre of gravity.
The 2015 Scout sits on a new aluminium chassis and is powered by the 1133cc liquid-cooled, 60-degree V-twin, DOHC, 4-valves per cylinder engine that has been developed in-house by Polaris for enhanced durability and reliability. The company states that the new engine is a modern design unit featuring closed-loop fuel injection as well as ride-by-wire throttle and is paired to a 6-speed transmission unit. The twin-cylinder engine is capable of producing 100 HP at 8100 RPM and 97.8 Nm of torque at 5900 RPM.
Targeted at newer and lesser experienced riders, the Indian Scout is designed to be compact, low and light with a dry weight of 244 kgs. However, with a tank capacity of 12.5-litres, the kerb weight goes up to 253 kgs. While not very light as one would hope, it is not as heavy as the Indian Chief range either. Suspension duties are performed by telescopic forks up front, while the rear gets dual shocks done up in chrome. Stopping power comes from single 298 mm disc brakes at the front and rear. There is no confirmation yet, if ABS is available on the model or not. The Scout is available in a range of dual-tone colour options.
