The 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission has been self-developed by Hyundai and comes paired to the 1.6-litre VGT diesel engine under the hood.
Hyundai has updated the Accent (Verna in India) sedan for the 2015 model year in its home market South Korea with an all-new 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) unit that has been self-developed by the company and comes paired with a diesel engine under the hood. Earlier this month, the automaker also updated the Veloster coupe with the new DCT unit which will now be seen on a host of Hyundai models internationally over the years.
The new 7-speed DCT comes paired to the 1.6-litre VGT diesel engine tuned to produce 136 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque. With the DCT unit, Hyundai claims a fuel efficiency of 18.3 km/l (Korean drive cycle) on the 2015 Verna. In addition, the sedan gets new features including a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system as well as a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) as standard. Hyundai also offers a 1.6-litre GDi petrol engine on the Korean spec Verna that is tuned to produce 140 PS and 166 Nm of torque, but comes paired to a standard conventional automatic gearbox. The base variants continue with the 1.4-litre VVT petrol motor producing 100 PS.
In India, the 2015 Hyundai Verna facelift is due for launch next month and will get revised exteriors, improved handling and updated features on offer. The engines could also see a re-tune for improved fuel efficiency to compete against rivals like the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz in the segment. It is unlikely that Hyundai will offer the new 7-speed DCT on the Indian version as it will lose out on the cost advantage. Nonetheless, the automaker could offer the 6-speed autobox on the new Verna replacing the sluggish 4-speed unit.
