Ford has big plans for the Indian market where it plans to grab a good market share with the all new Figo twins. The 2015 Figo hatchback has been on test since a while now.
Ford Motor Company tasted major success in India in only one segment till date, the compact SUV segment where it got the first mover advantage with the Ecosport. Now with other brands launching products in the same segment, Ford had to think of entering other segments to grab volumes and remain profitable in India. Hence, the American automaker will soon be launching the Figo Aspire compact sedan in the nation followed by the all-new Figo hatchback which shall debut this year too. The sub-4 metre sedan segment is something new for Ford and the company has made a great effort in the form of Figo Aspire to enter in the same.
Our reader Mr. Praveen Balan recently spotted the Figo sans camouflage in a new colour which looks pretty unique and suits the car well. The hatchback gets plenty of updates to make it look and feel more premium. Looking at the car from outside, one can say that it has grown in size and does have more presence. Looks inspired from its bigger siblings like the Fiesta and the Focus help its case. A weak point of the previous Figo, the under powered engines seems to have been addressed this time around with the hatchback getting more powerful engines.
The petrol engine is an improved version of the current 1.2-litre unit and will produce around 85 PS of power while the diesel engine will be a slightly de-tuned variant of the 1.5-litre TDCi unit from the EcoSport and the Fiesta. Lower state of tune for the diesel engine will be done majorly to improve the fuel efficiency figures of the Figo twins for the Indian customers obsessed with those figures. Both the vehicles will be built at the latest Ford plant located in Sanand, Gujarat. It remains to be seen whether both the vehicles set the sales chart on fire and deliver the desired figures to the American giant.
