2015 Ford EcoSport Facelift Caught Testing In India

2015 Ford EcoSport facelift has finally been snapped up in India while undergoing testing and its rear end looks very neat indeed.

Tail mounted spare wheel is lost on the facelift and looks good from behind

If you ask anyone from an Indian urban household to name one Ford vehicle which is retailed in the country more than 90 percent people will say EcoSport, such has been its success story. Though Ford has been in India for a very long time, the company hasn’t been able to cater to the mass market until it launched the compact SUV. The Ford EcoSport’s instant hit can be attributed to many reasons, but the main reason is due to the fact that it offers the feel of driving an SUV, without actually having to shell out loads of cash.

Launched a couple of years back, the compact SUV has aged gracefully. The Ford EcoSport facelift has been spied on various occasions in different countries and even the general public is now aware of how the facelift is going to look as Ford had unveiled the facelifted EcoSport at the Geneva Motor Show which was held in March 2015.

But now, the Ford EcoSport facelift has even been caught testing on Indian roads. One of the major changes witnessed is that the SUV looses its tail gate mounted spare wheel, which has been one of its unique visual features. As a result of losing the rear mounted spare wheel, the rear end gets a much cleaner look and a revised rear door. With the wheel removed, it is going to be much easier to open and close the door even when limited space is available. The vehicle undergoing testing also features a silver rear skid plate, privacy glass and the same alloy wheels which are retailed with the European Ford EcoSport.

While talking about the changes to the interiors, changes will be made to improve plastic quality and will be very much similar to the Fiesta, which is Europe’s best selling hatchback. No changes are expected to the powertrain and the EcoSport will continue with the existing engine options that include the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine which produces 123 HP of power and the 1.5-litre TiVCT petrol engine which generates 110 HP of power.

The diesel engine will continue to be the same 1.5-litre TDCi motor producing 90 HP of power. All the engines come paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox while the 1.5-litre petrol also gets a 6-speed automatic. The suspension on the facelift is likely to be reworked to provide more comfort, but other than that, no other changes are expected on the mechanical front.

Ford India has not yet revealed that when they will be launching the facelift in our country but it is most likely to be introduced towards the end of this year.

The facelift will feature the same engines and no mechanical changes are expected
