Erik Buell Racing, best known in India as Hero MotoCorp’s technical partner from the US has unveiled the 2015 EBR 1190SX naked street fighter superbike. The EBR 1190SX is a road legal version based on the EBR 1190RX that comes void of the full faired design making up for a very aggressive look. The bike was unveiled at an exclusive press ride for the 1190RX at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the USA. However, no further details or technical specifications have been revealed about the 1190SX as yet.
Taking a look at the EBR 1190SX, the basic chassis appears to be unchanged coming from the 1190RX which is a magnesium sub-frame with fuel-in-frame design. The street fighter essentially gets rid of the full fairing and sports a cleaner look all over, while the redesigned headlights get a distinctive look with LEDs. Even though the underpinnings come from the 1190RX, the naked street fighter does get certain mechanical changes to make the 1190SX better suited for different riding conditions.
Other changes on the EBR 1190SX include a tubular handlebar that replaces the clip-on handlebars from the 1190RX. The seats also receive better padding as the bike will be used more on road than the track. The 1190SX retains the LCD TFT display instrument console from its full faired sibling and also gets the Multi-Level Traction Control system.
In terms of powertrain, the EBR 1190SX uses the same 1190cc 72-degree, V-Twin engine producing 185 HP of power and 138 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed transmission with a hydraulic multi-plate slipper clutch. The bike comes with a 43 mm big piston fork at the front and a monoshock setup at the rear. Stopping power comes from a 386 mm disc brake at the front, which is complimented by a 220 mm disc brake setup at the rear.
The EBR 1190SX rides on Pirelli Diablo Corsa tyres and is expected to be lighter than its full faired sibling at around 188 kgs (dry weight). While the pricing and other details have not been released, the bike will be competing with the exotic likes of Aprilia Tuono V4, BMW S1000R and the KTM 1290 Super Duke R in the segment. The EBR 1190SX is priced at $16,995 (Rs. 10.21 lakhs) to differentiate better from the 1190RX that is priced at $18,995 (Rs. 11.40 lakhs).
