After teasing the 2015 Ducati Diavel since last week, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer finally broke the covers of the power cruiser at the 84th Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. The 2015 Ducati Diavel is a revised version of the motorcycle and sports significant changes to the design and powertrain adding more power to what is considered as the world’s best cruiser.
On the outset, the changes on the 2015 Ducati Diavel are evolutionary. The motorcycle maintains the original design language but gets functional design upgrades giving the motorcycle a whole new appeal. The headlight unit has been completely redesigned and now sports all-LED illumination. The LED treatment is continued on the turn indicators as well with the front indicators being mounted on the newly designed radiator covers. The dual seat is now more comfortable and offers better ride comfort over long distances.
The most important change on the 2015 Ducati Diavel is the updated engine. The power cruiser uses the 1198cc Testastretta, 11o Dual Spark engine. The updates on the engine extend to revised intake and exhaust ports coupled with radical adjustment of the cam timing. The engine also gets new pistons that improve the compression ratio and new injectors positioned for better fuel spraying.
All the changes on the engine have led to an improvement of power and performance on the Ducati Diavel. The engine now makes a sprightly 162 HP which now peaks at 9250 RPM (earlier at 9500 RPM) and 130.5 Nm of torque at 8000 RPM, while keeping the power band strong across a wide range. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission. The Diavel gets Marzocchi forks while stopping power comes from monoblock Brembo ABS brakes and the bike rides on 240-section rear tyre and 120 mm front tyre of Pirelli Diablo Rosso II make that offer superb handling.
The Diavel gets upgraded bar risers with an updated tank-mounted TFT screen which houses the fuel gauge and side-stand warning light, while the new LCD display unit shows the speed, RPM and the likes. The rider can choose from three riding modes on the Diavel, namely Sport, Touring and Urban; which can be selected via the TFT screen.
Ducati will be offering the Diavel in two versions. The standard version gets a dark stealth model with an all-black theme and is priced at $17,995 (Rs. 11.12 lakhs). The Diavel Carbon on the other hand gets stainless steel silencers, black wheels coupled with the red trellis frame and matte black carbon paint job. You can also opt for a white and black paint scheme on the Diavel. With the host of changes, the Ducati Diavel surely feels fresh with the mid-life facelift.
