If you ever wanted to own an American fire breathing dragon, this is probably the closest you could get. Dodge has revealed its most powerful car, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT which is powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged Hellcat V8 engine and produces an absolutely staggering 707 HP of power and 881 Nm of peak torque, making it the most powerful mass produced car in America ever. This also makes the 2015 Challenger SRT, the third most powerful factory produced car in the world; trailing behind the Bugatti Veyron and the Ferrari F12.
Dodge says that the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has been redesigned and totally re-engineered to be the most true-to-form muscle coupe on the market with performance-enhancing technologies inside and out, including the new and upgraded TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission that can handle all that extra power and torque, while sending power to the rear wheels. Retaining its classic looks on the outside, the muscle car’s all-new interiors are inspired by the classic 1971 Challenger.
Another very cool feature on the 2015 Challenger SRT is the inclusion of two keys fobs (no, the other key is not a spare). You actually get two key fobs – one red and black. Use the black key and the power is automatically restricted to just 500 HP, but use the red key and all 707 horses are unleashed at the disposal of your toes. With all that power on tap, the Challenger SRT is now on top of the most powerful muscle car list, beating the likes of the Shelby Ford Mustang GT500 (662 HP) and the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (638 HP) by a significant margin.
The 2015 Challenger SRT takes Dodge up higher as a performance brand in the Chrysler Group, after renewing its focus to concentrate only on performance cars. The Challenger SRT will reach American dealerships sometime in the third quarter of this year, while pricing will be announced as we get closer to the official launch. A 4-door model is also expected to be released based on the Challenger. All we now await patiently are for the drag strip numbers to come in.
