The next generation 2015 Chevrolet Cruze was caught undisguised at what seems to be a parking lot in Shanghai, China. The spy images completely reveal the exteriors and the interiors of the 2015 Cruze that will be showcased at the Beijing Motor Show later this year. The next generation Cruze will feature a complete new lineup of small capacity Ecotec engines, while the design language is a complete departure from the one seen on the current generation.
On the outset, the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze gets a completely redesigned front fascia. The sedan gets a wider split grille, now seen on most Chevrolet’s. The bow tie could have been better accommodated though and looks rather cramped to be fair. The redesigned headlight units are more angular and now feature projector lamps, while the mild eye lash lends a premium feel. The design is more swept back and gets more prominent lines across the hood. The fog lights feature inverted trapezoidal housing that also encompass the daytime running LED lights.
The side profile has been mildly toned down making way for a leaner appearance than the predecessor. The strong shoulder however, adds a sporty appeal to the design. The rear too gets a significant revision with the all-new tail light cluster. The rear design is more European compared to the current version and also gets a chrome lip running across the boot-lid. Chevrolet has smartly integrated a lip spoiler into the boot-lid which also features a centre stop light.
On the inside, the 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel looks sporty and the centre console features a larger touchscreen system. The company has smartly added chrome across the lines for the premium feel inside the cabin; a feature that will be much appreciated in our market. The spy shots were of the 1.4-litre option and also featured a sun-roof, also available on the current model. The sedan will also get ABS, ESP as well as ECO energy saving mode for improved fuel efficiency.
Powering the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze will be the 1.5-litre Ecotec engine replacing the current 1.6-litre unit and will produce 112 HP and 146 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The current 1.8-litre unit will be replaced by the all-new 1.4-litre Ecotec engine with an output of 148 HP and 235 Nm and will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic transmission.
Chevrolet will be selling the current generation Cruze that also receives a facelift this year which will be called as ‘Cruze Classic’ and will be sold alongside the next generation model in China. The next generation Cruze will make its India debut in 2015 and will be replacing the current model. The sedan will be competing against the Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra, Renault Fluence and the upcoming Toyota Corolla in the country.
