Chevrolet has been selling the Spark in India since 2007 and it is basically a facelifted version of the Daewoo Matiz. The Beat, which is sold as the Spark globally, was the actual replacement for the Indian Spark too but Chevrolet decided to sell both the vehicles side-by-side. The Spark is powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine which produces 63 PS of power and 90.3 Nm of torque while the Beat is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine cranking out 80.5 PS of power and 108 Nm of torque along with a 1.0-litre XSDE oil burner which gives out 58.5 PS of power and 150 Nm of torque.
The test vehicle in the spy pictures has a lot of camouflage so it is difficult to make out how the next generation Chevrolet Beat will look like but it is sure that the new Beat will be a completely new vehicle with changes to the exteriors as well as interiors. Chevrolet will introduce the new model in 2015. The Spark has been selling since a long time now and the manufacturer just gave it a slight cosmetic upgrade recently while the Beat, which was launched in India in 2010, will be replaced by an facelifted version at the 2014 Auto Expo.
The Spark has been selling in India since a long time and it is due for a replacement. Like all manufacturers, we are expecting Chevrolet also to sell the current Beat and the new Spark side-by-side. The current Beat’s prices will be reduced and it will replace the Spark while the new Spark will actually be sold as the new Beat in India. This type of strategy is carried out by many companies like Ford, Maruti Suzuki, Tata MOtors, etc who replace vehicles with new ones but still continue selling the old models at a reduced price tag. The new Spark/Beat that will come in 2015 is expected to be priced between Rs. 4.7-7.0 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).
