The BMW X5 M and X6 M are the M tuned versions of their standard counterparts and targeted at the affluent performance hungry SUV lovers.
Adding some ///M power to its Indian lineup, BMW India has officially launched the 2015 X5 M and X6 M performance SUVs in the country with prices starting at Rs. 1.55 crores for the X5 M, going up to Rs. 1.60 crores for the X6 M (ex-showroom, India). Both the models are powered by the same engine and mechanicals and are targeted at the SUV loving power hungry enthusiasts. That said, the X5 M and X6 M are quite practical as well being 5-seaters with a usable boot space for the occasional commuting purposes. Keeping things exciting, here is everything you need to know about BMW’s new power launches.
Design – Differentiating the ///M powered BMW X5 and X6 from standard versions is a bunch of aesthetic upgrades including a new and more aggressive looking bumper with larger air intakes, a double bar kidney grille along with the M logo and gills at the sides. The rear gets a revised and extremely sporty looking bumper with an integrated diffuser and quad exhausts with chrome finished tips. Both the X5 M and X6 M get 20-inch BMW M alloy wheels as standard with the option to upgrade to 21-inchers.
Interiors – Inside the cabin, the standard layout gets spruced with all the ///M bits including the steering wheel while there is abundance of leather covering the instrument panel and roof liner. The all black cabin gets exciting with the aluminium finished inserts across the cabin including the scuff plates. In terms of tech, both the BMW X5 M and X6 M come with auto climate control, Harman Kardon audio system, Park Distance Control with rear-view camera, adaptive LED headlights with BMW Selective Beam. The iDrive system supports the new generation navigation system while the instrument cluster gets an M specific mode that shows up all details about the SUV. There is also a Head Up Display (HUD) unit on both models.
Engine – Power on the BMW X5 M and X6 M comes from the insanely powerful 4.4-litre TwinTurbo V8 engine that is tuned to produce 575 HP, available between 6000-6500 RPM and a mind boggling 750 Nm of torque available between 2200-5000 RPM. Power is sent to all four wheels via the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. With earth shattering figures at your disposal, both the models complete the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 4.2 seconds while the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/hr.
Electronics – With all that power on offer, exercising control is equally necessary and the BMW X5 M and X6 M come with a tonne of electronic aids including Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with M Dynamic Mode, ABS with Brake Assist, CBC, side impact protection and much more. The models come with a self levelling suspension feature. You also get Dynamic Damper Control on the performance SUVs with the option to select from different modes including Comfort, Sport and Sport+.
The BMW X5 M and X6 M will be sold through the automaker’s new M Studios in the country with the first recently opened up in Mumbai and the company has plans to expand the network in cities like Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune and Hyderabad. Both models are being brought in via the CBU route and are competing against other performance bred European SUVs including the Mercedes ML63 AMG, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the newly launched Range Rover SVR and the likes.
