Yamaha has revealed details and images of the updated YZF-R125. The Yamaha R125 first went on sale way back in 2008 and this is the first comprehensive upgrade to the motorcycle and must we say it looks smashing. The design of the Yamaha 125 has evolved over the years and it gets styling cues from the older Yamaha’s. Hints from the new R6 and the R1 are evident throughout the bike. The Yamaha R125 retains a sporty stance but the design has become more aggressive than the older model.
The front of the R125 V2 gets re-designed twin headlamps with an air-intake right in the middle. The design of the indicator lights has also been revised for a sportier look. The new front cowl takes inspiration from the R6. The side profile now boasts of a new full fairing design done up in black. The bike retains the split seats and also gets a new LCD display console that features the speedo, tacho, engine temperature, maximum speed, average speed, clock, trip meter, average fuel consumption and fuel/reserve indicators.
Moving to the rear, the tail light design of the 2014 Yamaha R125 is completely new and features a built in guide light. The rear passenger footrest brackets, gear shift lever and the rear brake pedal are now made from aluminium. The bike also features other subtle touches like the front fender with a carbon finish, new muffler and a more compact license plate holder. The alloy wheel design has also been updated and feature Y-shaped spokes, wrapped around 17-inch tyres.
The updated Yamaha R125 now gets an all new fuel injection system that improves fuel efficiency by 11 percent and increases tank range of the bike compared to its predecessor. The bike features a 124.7cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine capable of producing 15 PS of power at 9000 RPM and 12.4 Nm of torque at 8000 RPM, mated to a 6-speed transmission. The R125 now gets KYB upside-down forks at the front, while the rear gets re-designed linkage system. Yamaha says the new front suspension ensures better stability and improved front wheel feedback. Stopping power comes from radial front calliper and floating discs in the front and rear respectively, now offered as standard.
The Yamaha R125 will be available in matte grey, anodised red and racing blue. The bike will be launched in April this year and prices are expected to be announced by next week. While the YZF-R125 won’t be making it to India anytime soon, we sure are getting an updated R15 Version 3.0 with exterior upgrades and some power bump as well.
