Yamaha has unleashed the 2014 MT-07 at the ongoing 2013 EICMA Motorcycle Show. The Yamaha MT-07 is a rather smaller version of the Yamaha FZ-09. Yamaha has introduced the MT-07 as a more city-oriented motorcycle with a brand new engine producing strong power and torque at relatively lower RPM. To boost the practicality further, Yamaha has kept the weight to an extremely low 178 kgs, which includes a full 14-litre fuel tank. The low weight will make the Yamaha MT-07 an agile city runner and accessible for new riders.
The Yamaha MT-07 is sculpted on a steel tube backbone frame with tight dimensions, hence the low weight. The MT-07 is powered by an all-new 689cc parallel-twin engine with a new Crossplane Crankshaft that uses a V-270 degree layout. The engine produces 74 BHP of maximum power at 9000 RPM and 67.8 Nm of peak torque at 6500 RPM. The suspension setup consists of conventional non-adjustable forks at the front and preload-adjustable shock at the rear.
The Yamaha MT-07 comes with dual 282 mm front disc brakes and a single rear disc brake. ABS will be offered as optional equipment, which will add 3 kgs of weight. The motorcycle has an aggressive styling tone that consists of muscular panels and striking lines. The air scoops, short yet chunky exhaust, split angular seats and LED tail lamps provide a sporty appearance. The instrument panel is all-digital. Yamaha will be offering the new MT-07 with five colour options – black, grey, white, blue and red. The company should launch the Yamaha MT-07 in India to rival the Kawasaki Ninja 650.
