After updating the Polo hatchback earlier this year, Volkswagen has now updated the 2014 Cross Polo mini crossover as well with subtle changes to keep things fresh. The Cross Polo facelift will be showcased at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show scheduled to commence next week along with the new Polo TSI BlueMotion, TDI BlueMotion, BlueGT and the R-Line packages as well as the regular hatchback.
The Cross Polo receives subtle updates to the exterior which include smoked tail light clusters, new 17-inch alloy wheels, addition of silver accents throughout the exterior and two new body colours added to the options list. On the inside, you get a redesigned steering wheel, a revised gear shifter and hand brake lever. The interior fabrics have also been replaced with new ones.
The Cross Polo will get a new TSI engine globally. You also get additional features such as the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, wherein the car initiates braking after a collision, the optional Driver Alert System, Front Assist Ambient Monitoring System with City Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). The car is equipped with a rear view camera and new controls for the climate control system. The infotainment system has also been updated.
Volkswagen has also added three new models in the Polo lineup apart from the Cross Polo, starting with Polo BlueMotion. The fuel efficient hatchback gets an all-new 3-cylinder, turbocharged TSI petrol engine that produces 90 PS of power. Termed as the Polo TSI BlueMotion, the car is the most frugal in its segment with a combined fuel consumption of 24.39 km/l. The TDI BlueMotion retains its frugal nature with the new 3-cylinder TDI engine producing 75 PS of power while returning 32.25 km/l of mileage.
The Polo BlueGT now develops 10 PS more than the predecessor from the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that gives a total output of 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The car also gets active cylinder management, and is mated to a 6-speed manual or an optional 7-speed DSG gearbox. The new R-Line package gets exterior and interior tweaks with new bumpers, sport seats and steering wheel tuned for the latest Polo.
The 2014 Cross Polo facelift is expected to debut in India soon after the regular Polo facelift is launched which is set for June. However, the model will miss out on the tech wizardry on the Indian version to keep the costs in check. The Cross Polo caters to a niche audience who want the looks of an off-roader with the practicality of a hatchback. The updated regular Polo along with the additional four new models will be showcased at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
