The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has received a facelift for 2014 and has been launched in India. The changes on the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado are minor when compared to the model it replaces. It is more of aesthetic upgrades for this SUV while the mechanical aspect of the vehicle has been left completely untouched. The facelifted Prado SUV was launched in Saudi Arabia last month which also happens to be one of its biggest markets. These subtle changes come after a long gap of five years since the previous iteration of the Prado was launched back in 2009.
The 2014 Toyota Prado gets a new headlamp design with LED daytime running lights. The front bumper is completely redesigned with a larger spindle-shaped grille that looks aggressive and gives a butch stance to the SUV. The tail lamps are also restyled with clear lens LED lights and the number plate panel is now wider at the rear. The rear also gets a big chrome strip with Land Cruiser engraving on it.
The interiors get a host of upgrades in comparison to the previous Prado. The upper centre console receives significant changes. A 4.2-inch TFT-monitor coupled with Optitron meter is perched between the instrument cluster of the car and displays information regarding the differential lock operation, vehicle’s angle and the amount of traction at each individual wheel while also monitoring the surroundings through a 7-inch Multi-Terrain monitor on the centre console.
A crawl-control feature is introduced on the 2014 Toyota Prado SUV which basically handles the operations of the accelerator and the brakes while the driver is expected to concentrate completely on steering the vehicle. Five different terrain modes can be selected including Rock, Rock and Dirt, Mogul, Loose Rock and finally Mud and Sand. Tyre pressure monitoring system is also introduced as a safety feature and second row seats get the heating option.
The only engine option available here in India is the 3.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel motor which produces a peak output of 171 BHP at 3400 RPM and 410 Nm of torque between 1600-2400 RPM. Power is fed to all the wheels through a 5-speed automatic transmission. The facelifted Prado has been priced at Rs. 84,87,000/- (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and this steep pricing can be attributed to the CBU route through which the go-anywhere vehicle is imported to India.
