Toyota has launched the 11th generation Corolla in the international market in June this year. The sedan is due for its India launch in early 2014 and has been spied testing on our roads. The new generation Corolla has been spotted wearing heavy camouflage but we can see some of the new styling elements such as the front grille and the wide bumpers along with the elongated rear wrap-around tail lamps. The latest generation Corolla is inspired from the Furia concept and has got significant styling updates compared to the current generation Corolla Altis.
In terms of specifications, the 2014 Toyota Corolla will continue to be offered with the same engine options as the existing Corolla Altis in India. However, these engines will be updated for the new Corolla in order to improve performance. The Toyota Corolla Altis comes with a 1.8-litre dual VVTi petrol engine that churns out 138 BHP of power and 173 Nm of torque. The 1.4-litre D-4D diesel engine produces 87 BHP of power with 205 Nm of torque. Both of these engines on the new Corolla will get slightly improved performance and optimised gearing, including a 7-step CVT automatic transmission.
The interiors of the eleventh generation Toyota Corolla will be all new, which means a fresh dashboard layout and new upholstery theme. The styling inside the cabin is contemporary and sporty, which is expected to be equipped with latest gadgetry. The Japanese carmaker is likely to provide options between interior trims. Expect the new version of the Corolla to be priced slightly more than the current model. When launched, the all new Corolla will compete with the likes of the Chevrolet Cruze, Volkswagen Jetta, Hyundai Elantra and the soon to be launched Skoda Octavia.
