The much awaited Tata Nano diesel is under works, which is expected to be the most fuel efficient car in India. The diesel variant of the Nano has been spotted recently with some changes. It seems to be the last leg of its development and we expect Tata Motors to launch the diesel powered Nano at the 2014 Auto Expo in February next year. From the looks of it, Tata Motors has revised the bumper extensively with a large black smiling grille. The rear bumper will also get the same treatment.
The bumpers are revised with larger grilles in order to provide better heat dissipation to the diesel engine. Apart from the redesigned bumpers, the Nano diesel version will also get an openable rear boot lid and rest of the body remains unchanged. Powering the Nano diesel is a Tata Ace derived 700cc engine, which will get a turbocharged in the Nano. The common-rail turbo diesel motor will produce 40 BHP of power with 60 Nm of torque. Fuel injection of the motor is being handled by Bosch and the turbocharger is supplied by Garrett.
The Tata Nano diesel variant is expected to give a significant boost to Tata Motors’ sales. At present, the Sanand factory is running at 20 percent of its total capacity because of low demand for the Nano. Last month in June, Tata Motors saw an increase in Nano sales (2003 units), thanks to the updated 2013 model. People who are seeking for a frugal Nano for the time being, Tata Motors will be launching the Nano E-MAX soon. The Nano E-MAX is a CNG version of the Nano based on the petrol version.
