Skoda has released official details and pictures of the Superb facelift which will be showcased at the upcoming 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. The Czech automaker has facelifted the 2014 Skoda Superb extensively with new exterior and interior elements, which follows the new simple yet elegant design language of the Skoda family. The front has been revamped significantly with a new wider grille, upgraded Skoda logo, fresh set of alloy wheels, new fog lamps, restyled bumpers, redesigned front fenders and bonnet along with the all new bi-xenon headlamps featuring LED daytime running lights.
The Skoda Superb gets more attractive at the rear, where it features new LED tail lights with three stripes integrated neatly onto the boot. The facelift looks well proportioned with simple and clear styling elements. For the interiors, Skoda is offering a choice of three and four spoke steering wheels with nine new patterns and fabrics for the seat covers. The Superb is already known for superb cabin space, which is the best in class, offering acres of leg room at the rear. Now the facelift features an adjustable front passenger seat which can be moved from the rear electronically.
That’s not all, the upgraded Skoda Superb now features Automatic Parking Assistant which supports both parallel and reverse perpendicular parking, earlier seen on its Volkswagen sibling, the Passat. Unlike conventional facelifts, Skoda has made some changes under the hood. In order to return improved fuel efficiency, the Superb now features start-stop system along with brake energy regeneration. The petrol engines on offer include 1.4-litre TSI and 1.8-litre TSI motors, while the diesel powerplants consist of a 2.0-litre TDI turbo diesel engine with 140 BHP and 170 BHP states of tune.
The Skoda Superb facelift will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as 6-speed dual clutch DSG automatic transmission. Skoda will launch the Superb facelift in European markets at the end of June this year and we can expect the company to introduce the upgraded model through the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route in India later this year or early next year. Prices are expected to be similar as the existing model. Currently, the Skoda Superb retails in the Indian market for a starting price of Rs. 18 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
