Giving the new entry-level model Primavera some company, Piaggio has launched the sportier version of the Vespa automatic scooter called Sprint in Italy. The Sprint model replaces the Vespa S internationally, which was based on the older Vespa LX model. The Vespa Sprint gets its name from the iconic Sprint model of the 1960’s. The model shares its unibody chassis with the Primavera scooter and gets a host of styling enhancements for a sporty appeal.
The Vespa Sprint gets a new rectangular shaped headlight cluster design. The front fascia loses out on the curves for a more angular and sporty appearance, while keeping up with the vintage demeanour of the scooter. The dashboard too has been redone and gets a new instrument console with an analogue speedometer and a digital read out. The Sprint shares a lot of components with the Primavera, which is visible, especially at the rear. The tail light unit and the indicators come from the Primavera model, whereas the grab rail has been redesigned. The other major change on the Sprint is the inclusion of 12-inch alloy wheels; which not only improve the visual appeal of the scooter but will also aid towards better handling.
The Vespa Sprint also gets a single seat with white contrast stitching and features a host of updates including two disc piston callipers at the front, lowered saddle and a new front suspension setup. The chrome induced wing mirrors also sport a new design. The Vespa Sprint gets the 125cc air-cooled single-cylinder, 3-valve engine with electronic injection, also found on the Primavera and is tuned to produce 11.6 HP of power and has a top speed of just over 100 km/hr. The engine is quite fuel efficient too and returns around 60 km/l on an average (EU cycle).
The Vespa Sprint will also be available with a 50cc 2-stroke and 4-stroke engine options, while the colour options available are vintage yellow, blue, white, red and black. The Sprint will go on sale in April 2014 and has been priced at 4000 Euros (Rs. 3.30 lakhs) for the 125cc variant. Check out the Vespa Sprint with the vibrant colours in the official video.
