After comprehensively updating the flagship Superb saloon earlier this year, Skoda Auto has now announced the Rapid saloon with a host of new features for the 2014 model year. The 2014 Skoda Rapid gets additional features with no mechanical or aesthetic changes. The Rapid retains the same design language from the Fabia, while the visual upgrade is slated for a year end launch.
The 2014 Skoda Rapid gets the new and updated Skoda corporate logo finished in black and chrome and has added projector lens headlamps. The interiors see more comprehensive changes with a multi-function steering wheel, Bluetooth telephone connectivity, leather package and an updated on-board computer. The company has also added additional airbags in the middle variant. You also get anti-pinch one touch power windows, 2-DIN audio player, multi-function display unit, climatronic (automatic) AC as part of the package.
The Skoda Rapid is available with petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.6-litre MPI petrol is capable of churning out 105 BHP at 5250 RPM and 153 Nm of torque at 3800 RPM. The 1.6-litre diesel on the other hand makes 105 BHP at 4400 RPM and 250 Nm of torque between 1500 – 2500 RPM. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed transmission, while the petrol model also gets a 6-speed automatic with tip-tronic transmission. The company claims a fuel consumption of 15 km/l on the petrol and 20.5 km/l on the diesel.
The Skoda Rapid also gets ABS and brake assist on the top end variants. Skoda is offering the Rapid in four shades namely white, black, silver, beige and red, while the interiors are done up in beige and black. The car is available in three trim levels – Active, Ambition/Ambition Plus and Elegance on both engine options. Prices for the 2014 Skoda Rapid start at Rs. 7.10 lakhs while the top end model retails at Rs. 9.22 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
