Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new S63 AMG, the most powerful S–Class ever. It is powered by a 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo engine which generates 585 PS of power at 5500 RPM and 900 Nm of torque available between 2250 and 3750 RPM. The S63 AMG can reach a limited top speed of 250 km/hr and can hit 0–100 km/hr in 4.4 seconds (4.0 seconds for the 4MATIC model). This model loses 100 kgs compared to its predecessor thereby increasing the average fuel economy to 9.9 km/l (claimed of course).
The Mercedes S-Class has always been known to offer refined, confident and smooth ride. This model takes all the family genes adding even better performance. The vehicle uses lightweight lithium-ion battery, AMG forged light-alloy wheels and a weight-optimized AMG composite braking system. Also, the outer body including the roof and the front end is made of aluminium, thus making it possible to lose all the 100 kilos.
The V8 engine in the S63 is mated to an AMG Speed shift 7-speed transmission that has three modes – ‘C’ (Controlled Efficiency), ‘S’ (Sport mode) and ‘M’ (Manual). The S63 AMG is available with ceramic composite brakes for the first time that are ‘fade-resistant’ and display ‘higher thermal stability’. This means they offer amazing braking ability in high speeds even in difficult conditions and are sure to provide confidence for the driver when he hits the metal.
The Mercedes S63 AMG blends luxury, performance, safety and is thoroughly stunning from every angle. It has all the AMG standard fitment like AMG door sill panels, AMG floor mats, AMG sports pedals made with brushed stainless steel and rubber studs, ambience lighting, Attention Assist, Collision Prevention Assist, 10 loudspeakers with front bass, metallic paintwork, tyre pressure loss warning system and LED High Performance headlamps.
The S63 AMG is probably the most refined performance car from AMG and the luxury and effortless performance it offers, is sure to pull customers to its side, when they know this car is capable of outperforming a Porsche 911 in a straighline. The S64 AMG is priced at £1,19,565/- (which converts to Rs. 1 crore, without taxes). But when launched in India as a CBU unit which attracts a 110% import duty, expect the performance limo to be priced around Rs. 2.5 crores.
