The Mercedes CLS coupe is a vehicle that offers a blend of sportiness and premium feel. Now, the German automaker has launched the 2014 CLS 350 in India. This model is not completely new, but a significant upgrade over the outgoing version. The front face of the vehicle looks like any other product from the Mercedes stable. The headlights look striking and there is a strip of DRLs at both the ends of the front bumper. The front grille with the huge logo looks imposing as ever and the radiator grille gets a honeycomb finish. The side profile looks sleek and the roof seamlessly blends into the rear.
The interiors come loaded with a beautiful 3D instrument cluster. The interior lighting package comes in Neutral, Solar and Polar modes and a user can choose any of these depending on his or her liking. The sunroof features a sliding design and the steering wheel comes with paddle shifters. The Mercedes CLS also comes with a very nice-sounding Harman Kardon Logic 7 audio system with 14 speakers including a subwoofer and a 9-channel DSP amplifier. The 610-watt Dolby Digital 5.1 System has been custom-tuned for the CLS.
Powering the Mercedes CLS 350 is a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine that produces a maximum power output of 306 HP while peak torque is rated at 370 Nm. The CLS runs from 0-100 km/hr in just 6.1 seconds. The vehicle also comes with an AIRMATIC suspension in which the driver can easily adjust the suspension according to his needs. The suspension also has an ability to increase the ride height over bad road conditions. The Active Park Assist feature is useful while parking since it comes with audio and visual warnings.
The 2014 Mercedes CLS 350 has been launched at an introductory price of Rs. 89.9 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it will compete with the BMW 6-Series and Audi A7. While Mercedes has offered the car with petrol only power, the rivals of the CLS 350 come with diesel power.
