Get your magnifying glasses out, although they too won’t be of any help to judge the changes to the facelifed Maruti Suzuki Swift. Just last week we reported about Suzuki’s plans to update the Swift as the time for its mid-life facelift had come. We however had absolutely no idea that the updates would be so minor. The Swift has been a global success and Suzuki really doesn’t need to mess with the already brilliant vehicle. So when it came to facelifting the Swift, Suzuki took a leaf out of Hyundai’s upgrade book.
No, Hyundai has never done such a minor facelift to any of its vehicle. However if you remember, last year the Korean automaker gave the i20 LED day time running lights. Looks like Suzuki has copied the same thing. We know DRLs are not a big deal and everyone does it nowadays but the location of the L-shaped LEDs on the 2014 Suzuki Swift is identical to the ones seen on the Hyundai i20, which is around the fog lamps. Positioning LEDs on the lower side of the bumper doesn’t really serve the purpose of having them in the first place.
Other changes to the 2014 Suzuki Swift are actually not visible but neither is there any change to the mechanicals or the interiors of the vehicle. The Swift continues to utilize Fiat’s 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine and Suzuki’s own 1.2-litre VTT petrol engine. Globally there are more engine options available on the Swift. Suzuki has added a new gold colour to the car which might make its way to India. The Japanese small car giant will introduce 4-wheel drive on the Swift crossover which is expected to debut later this year at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
