The updated Xylo sports cosmetic changes to the exteriors and interiors, while the MUV gets mechanical upgrades to the suspension for an improved ride quality.
Mahindra has launched the updated Xylo MUV for the 2014 model year with a list of changes to the exteriors and interiors, while the mechanicals have also been tweaked. Starting with the cosmetic changes on the exteriors, the 2014 Xylo gets a new chrome strip on the hood, new body decals, roof rails and updated alloy wheels. At the rear too, the tail gate has been updated with a chrome garnish, while the tail lights see a mild revision. On the inside, the changes include new dual-tone black and beige dashboard, revised seat fabrics, a new instrument cluster as well as steering mounted audio controls and a new 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth connectivity. Mahindra has managed to keep the interior changes subtle, while giving a fresh new look.
On the mechanical front, the biggest update comes to the 2014 Mahindra Xylo’s suspension set-up that has been tweaked for a more comfortable ride. The company also states that the Xylo will be more stable at high speeds and body roll too should be lesser than that on the outgoing model. In terms of powertrain, the MUV gets no changes and continues with the same 2.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 95 PS and 218 Nm of torque for the base variants, while the higher variants get the 2.2-litre mHawk motor from the Scorpio that produces 120 PS and 280 Nm of torque. Both the engines are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Xylo has not been much of a successful product for Mahindra. Launched in 2009, the MUV was derived as a competitor to the Toyota Innova, Chevrolet Tavera and the likes in the MPV segment; however, after a decent start, the model met with limited success. The Xylo was also updated around two years ago with refreshed styling, but little has improved sales since then. The company sold 898 units of the Xylo in August this year, quarter of what the competition manages to retail. The 2014 Mahindra Xylo range starts at Rs. 7.52 lakhs, going up to Rs. 10.93 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
